The next step in training to become a professional pilot is to proceed towards the Commercial Pilot License (CPL). With a CPL you are able to fly as a professional either in general aviation or in an airline as a first officer. Privileges:

Act as Pilot-in-Command or co-pilot of an aeroplane

Act as Pilot-in-Command of an ultra-light aeroplane

 

Flight Training:

200 hours flight time in aeroplanes, of which a minimum of 100 hours shall be pilot-in-command time including 20 hours cross-country pilot-in-command flight time, including a minimum of:

  • 35 hours of dual instruction, which must include 5 hours of night flight including a minimum of 2 hours of cross-country flight time, 5 hours of total cross-country time and 20 hours of instrument time; 10 hours of which may be completed on an approved simulator

  • 30 hours solo practice, which must include 5 hours solo flight time by night during which a minimum of 10 takeoffs, circuits and landings were completed,  25 hours solo flight time emphasizing the improvement of general flying skills of the applicant which shall include a cross-country flight to a point of a minimum of 300 nautical mile radius from the point of departure and shall include a minimum of 3 landings at points other than that of departure

 

Medical Fitness:

An applicant shall hold a valid category 1 medical certificate.

 

Ground School Training:

A CPL applicant must attend a minimum of 80 hours of approved ground school. This course consists of a series of lectures aimed at fully preparing the student for not only the required Transport Canada examinations but also a safe and satisfying time in the world of aviation. The subjects dealt with in the ground school include Air Law, Aeronautics, Navigation, Meteorology etc. Individual instruction will be given as required. A home study course is also available with individual tutoring.

 

Written Examination:

A Transport Canada written exam is required

  • You must obtain a minimum of 60% in each of the following mandatory areas:

    • Air Law

    • Navigation

    • Meteorology

    • General Knowledge

 

Flight Test:

Successfully complete a Commercial Pilot flight test to Transport Canada standards.

 

Course Enrollment:

Students may enroll at any time and commence flight training at their convenience; however ground school timetables will be established and published for varied times.

 

Enrollment Requirements:

Hold a valid Canadian PPL.

Age:

Minimum of 17 years to start training. A Commercial pilot must be at least 18 years of age to hold the licence.

Citizenship:

An applicant must be a Canadian citizen, a landed immigrant, or a person bearing a valid study permit. 

Language:

An applicant must be able to read exam questions and write the answers in either English or French, without assistance.

 

Actual Training Hours & Cost:

The actual training hours would vary based on individual progress or needs.

Our aircraft rates for local students is $180per hour and Instruction rates are $55per hour. These rates do not include taxes. (Prices are subject to change without notice)
